Description of the Forktail Rainbow Fish

The Forktail Rainbow Fish is a small silver colored fish with yellow trimmed fins. The color of the pectoral fin of the male differs from the females, males have a yellow tipped pectoral fin with females having a transparent pectoral fin. Their tails appear fork like due to their coloring.

This slime provides protection against parasites and infections and helps the Forktail Rainbow Fish to move through the water faster. Some fish species also release toxins in their slime which ward off enemy attacks. Other fish species use their slime to feed their young.

Gills enable the Forktail Rainbow Fish to breathe. Gills consist of thin sheets of tissue containing blood vessels.
